I want to export photos from a shared album using Photos app

In iPhoto, this task was quite simple. However, now that Photos has taken over, I don't have an easy way to export selected pictures from a shared album directly to my Mac Mini or thumb drive. Has anyone figured this out?

I just tried Photo Sync app, garbage. It crashed every single time.

Mac mini (Late 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

simple - import them into Photos (right click on the photo and select import) then select and export to a desktop folder - using the finder drag that folder to the external storage device

Thank you, but this doesn't not work from an album I shared. It works when someone has shared an album with me but not the other way around.

I want to tag or flag certain pictures in order to upload them to a photo frame and with iPhoto I was able to export them directly to disc. Seems like this function has been removed due to the way Photos handles the pictures differently.

Really? My screenshot is from an album that I shared. You may be seeing no reaction to the "Import", because the photo is already in the library. But after you "Import" again, the menu item "Show in Moment" will be available. For some reason this command will only appear, after I import the shared photo, even if it has been shared from the same library.

When you use "Show in Moment" for your shared photos after importing, you will notice that the version imported from the Shared album has a lower pixel size than the original in your library, and you may prefer to use the better original. The imported versions will maximally have a resolution of 2048 at the longest side, so if you want to backup the photos it would be better to backup the versions you already have in your library.

This creates a local album with the selected, shared photos.

And this album will also only contain the reimported lower resolution versions.

Ctrl-click and use "Show in Moment" to see the reimported photo side-by-side with the original. Then compare the data in the Info panel.

The reimported version will have no title, probably the lens information will be missing, and the longest edge will only have 2048 pixels.

Save the original to the left instead, if your intention is to backup your photos.

Did Apple ever add a way to save a shared photo from the photos.app? My wife has shared photos to our family share from her iPhone SE and there is no combination of export, import or whatever that allows me to get the photos in question out of the app (short of a screenshot). Otherwise I would wipe photos.app from all of my Macs and forget it ever existed. This is really pretty unbelievable... this is a trivial activity in (what was) iPhoto, Aperture or even Lightroom.
