How do I update QuickTime on Windows?

I'm on Windows 8 and I wanted to install quicktime 7.7.7 but it giving me error stating that it requires specifically Windows Vista or Windows 7 not "Vista or Later". I just wanted to know the better way to update it. I tried the Compatibility Tool but it spit out the same error. Can this issue be fixed soon?
