Safarialert.us scam

Today a popup appeared on our iPad Air while using Safari that would not go away:

http:/safarialert.us

Critical security warning "malicious "adward" attack

Call<phone number>

Blah blah blah

I found references to this scam concerning iMacs with solutions involving a keyboard which I did not have access to with the popup permanently open.

I powered down the iPad and upon powering up, the problem seems to have gone away but I was wondering if anyone has encountered this and is there a more permanent solution?

Thank you

iPad Air, iOS 8.1

Do the following on the device:

Close off Safari from Multitasking:

Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support

Clear Safari's history and website data:

Settings/Safari/Clear History and Website Data

Reset the device:

Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)

1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.

2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
