Tray loader iMac G3 won't recognize CDs

Hello everybody,

Recently I got a Blue iMac G3 with the Tray-loading drive, which does work (the disc spins up normally) but the OS won't recognize, even show any alerts. The Apple CD/DVD Driver extension is enabled, and I have CD-ROM and normal CD-R discs, but the computer doesn't read them.

These are the specs of the computer:

iMac model M4984

PowerPC G3 processor at 333 MHz

194 MB of RAM

6 GB HDD

ATAPI CD-ROM drive (The OEM CD drive which came on every iMac)

Mac OS 9.2.2

I really need to get working the drive, because I need to reinstall OS 9 (I have to change the OS language). I already tried to disconnect and connect again the drive, but the problem stays. I'll buy a new drive if necessary, to check that the problem is not a software issue.

Or the drive can only read a type of CDs?

Thanks

iMac G3 model M4984-OTHER, Mac OS 9.2.x
