What's the cheapest way to use my Verizon iPhone 5 when I take it to Canada?

Going to Canada for 5 days. I hear a lot about massive charges for everything IF you don't make the right prep.

Advice anybody?

Thanks!

The iPhone 5 has two radios, the Verizon CDMA and a GSM. The GSM radio is unlocked for use with non-CDMA networks. Remove the Verizon sim and buy a sim from a local GSM carrier that allows pay-as-you-go or something of that nature. That way it will operate on the local network and local rates.

You will have to see what plans they offer, cellular, cellular plus data, in May while in Ireland there were all sorts of options. I seem to remember Rogers being pretty good in parts of Canada, but check where you are visiting to see what is good. If there is an Apple Store that is an option to get an unbiased opinion of what is available.
