Why do I keep getting a blue spinning circle by the cursor?

Today I've noticed when I am online that I keep getting a blue spinning circle by the cursor. The computer has been pretty slow overall the last couple weeks. I've rebooted, I've ran Utilities. Not sure what else to try.

3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.3), 4 GB RAM

Oh, right, Snow Leopard. It's been a while...

My best guess is that Facebook plugin. Go to your Home Folder/Library/Internet Plugins and move the "fbplugin" file to the Trash. If that doesn't do it you need to disable all the plugins and extensions for Safari and re-enable them one by one. Coupon printers have a bad rep for causing problems, but I have no direct experience of them myself.

I'd also recommend keeping the 'Java in browser' disabled except for the times when you are actually using a website that uses it.

If these guesses don't work, use Console.app to take a look at the System Log and see if any errors are logged at the same time as the pin-wheel appears.

I moved it to the trash but I'm still getting the blue spinning wheel only when I'm in Facebook. I use the latest Firefox browser.

Another issue I'm having is the computer not wanting to go to sleep when its programmed to do so. Its not an all the time problem, just random - here & there

Why do I keep getting a blue spinning circle by the cursor?
