DeskTop Print 2.0 software.

I just upgraded from OSX 10.2 to Tiger. Now when I try to access some old classic software (2 test generators and Physics) I can no longer print from these applications. I get an error message saying that the application is not Apple Event aware, and I have not installed DeskTop Print 2.0 software. These generators worked on classic before I installed tiger, and seem to work with classic when running older versions of OSX. What can I do?

Hi, Jurk, and welcome to Apple Discussions. If there are no OS X-native applications that can serve your needs, there's not much you can do, other than to use one of the OS X versions in which your antique applications work. Apple is unlikely to expend any energy to make Classic applications run better in Tiger; Classic is sort of a take-it-or-leave-it, use-it-if-you-can-and-too-bad-if-you-can't proposition now. The current Intel-based Macs don't run Classic at all, so you would be well advised to look into OS X-native applications for your purposes long before you need to replace your present Powerbook. I'm sorry not to have better news for you.

A Google search suggested that this problem can be solved by uploading a newer version of the printer driver. I have tried this with my Canon i960 and it did not work. The seemingly obvious answer is to install DeskTop Print 2.0 software, however Apple does not have this as a download option. So where can you find it? This would seem like a major problem for many people like myself that have thousands of fclassic files in OS 9 with no OS X update applications available. How could Apple do this to us?

I solved this problem with two old programs running in classic. They both had problems, but one gave me the famous "Desktop Print 2.0" message. Neither had a problem printing in 10.2.8 on a G3. They would not print on my new iBook G4 with 10.4.8. With one of the classic programs running you can get to the Chooser under the apple menu. I was able to choose the printer driver, but the USB printer symbol would not show up in the display box. I next selected the USB printer sharing control panel and started sharing. My printer showed up in the "my printers" panel and I checked the box. When I returned to Chooser I could now select the printer. It all works now. Go figure.
