Canon ZR45MC camera not detected on Mac - Help!

Mac is operating on Mavericks 10.9.5, and fully up to date. Camera is plugged in (trying to obtain the footage through the tape function of the camera) with a correct and brand new usb cable however it is not being detected by my Mac, I've looked in Image Capture, Disk Utility, iPhoto and there was still no device detected. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you mean tape VIDEO footage, you need the compatible iEEE 1394 (Firewire) cable to upload video from your ZR45MC to Mac for use in iMovie or Final Cut.

The USB cable will only let you download stills like those you can import via iPhoto. However, even if you have not recorded any stills on your camcorder, your Mac's Finder should see your camera's Memory Card as a connected device (if you have installed one.) If you have your Finder preferences correctly configured and still cannot see your device, your new USB cable is likely bad. Try another USB cable or test your cable with a different, known-working USB device on your Mac.

For more info on connecting your computer, see your ZR45MC's User Guide Instruction Manual.
