iphone 4s wont turn on or charge and when i plug the charger in the left side of the phone gets hot

I was using my iPhone 4s throughout the day and then when i went to unlock it few hours later it wont turn on or charge. When i plug the charger nothing happen except the left side of the phone gets hot. I have tried holding the power and home button many time but didn't do anything. Please help
