Q: iOS 8.4 slow wake on iPad Air 2

After upgrading to iOS 8.4, I noticed that there is a 1-2 second delay before the screen turns on after waking it up.  This generally happens if my iPad has been locked for a few minutes and I'm certain that this wasn't present in iOS 8.3.  Has anyone else noticed this behavior?  I'm going to submit a bug report to Apple, but wanted to reach out to the community first...

Add me to the list of disgruntled iPad users sick of the backwards progress by Apple these days. My iPad was fine until the updat, now I have the rotation and delay issues. Not cool Apple, at all.

We've had an Ipad 2nd gen in the family for years but my iPad Air 2 is my first very own iPad and I love it and use it more than my pC. My iPhone 6 is also my first iPhone. I'm still pretty new to iOS but have become a very loyal follower. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon, it's something I can live with for now but I can't say it doesn't bother me more and more each time I see it.

Make sure that you file a bug report as well. The link has been provided a couple of times in this thread.

I believe I've found a direct link between the delayed unlock and the screen rotation issue, both of which I am now seeing:

I Don't have the rotation problem and never did. I only have the wake from sleep issue. I have experimented over and over and cannot replicate what you are seeing.

i have the same issue with the lag to homescreen, slow wake up and screen rotation bug. i'm thinking about down grading to ios 8.3. these are not big issues, but after a while it gets to you.

This is an odd one...no definite consistency between users.

I can reproduce it both issues 100% of the time while you don't have the rotational issue at all. BTW, thanks for trying to replicate it.

And a Happy Fourth to both you and Bob and everyone else here in the ASCs.

I thought about that for a second as well but for me personally, it's just not worth my time. I know specifically when the issue occurs on my device and when it does, I know a work-around. Hopefully, Apple will address it for all of us in a .1 update before iOS 9 is released.

Demo, if you could try the following and see if it affects your device (causes rotation to stop as I described), it would be appreciated.

my best guess would be some processor down throttling after a certain time. that's why it only appears after the pad is sleeping for a time. maybe they throttle it for battery economy. maybe it's a a8x specific process.

ps. i did downgrade to 8.3, just to find out i can't restore the 8.4 backup...

Re: iOS 8.4 screen rotation not working

I would be happy to accommodate you, but i do not and never did have a problem with the screen rotation. Rotation never stopped working properly for me at all after the update. I never turned on Reduce Motion either. I have been using the parallax effect on the Air2 since I got it. I have no battery drain issues with it at all. I did have a little less battery time on my iPad 3 when it was on, but not on the Air2.

If I am missing something, let me know and I will gladly do what I can to help.

Happy 4th of July to you, Bob, and to everyone sees that celebrates the holiday!

    Aloha Demo.

And a Happy Fourth to you my good ma.

I think SergZak wants you to turn reduce motion on to see if you can introduce the problem. I tried but I have the wrong iPad model.

Now it's almost time for the fireworks show.

    Bob.

Yes, Reduce Motion enabled (no parallax effect) is what causes the screen rotation issue. Having it off (parallax effect present), there is no rotational issue.

Wishing both you and Demo (and all others here that celebrate) a Happy 4th as well. I've already BBQ'd our burgers & hotdogs...and myself as well. SoCal summer heat stinks. Fireworks will likely be viewed in HD tonight, in the comfort of our home.
