Q: iOS 8.4 slow wake on iPad Air 2

After upgrading to iOS 8.4, I noticed that there is a 1-2 second delay before the screen turns on after waking it up.  This generally happens if my iPad has been locked for a few minutes and I'm certain that this wasn't present in iOS 8.3.  Has anyone else noticed this behavior?  I'm going to submit a bug report to Apple, but wanted to reach out to the community first...

I Too am experiencing the wake up delay. (Following the 8.4 update)

This is rather frustrating and concerns me greatly as this was how my 4s problems started. Every update seemed to hack away at the operating speed of my phone. Got to the point where I bought a brand new 4s, only to realise it's the operating system that's at fault.....

I Went all out on my Air 2 - full metal jacket with 128gb, I sincerely hope this isn't going to be another repeat of history.... Updates

For those just discovering this issue:

The only current work-around for the wake delay is to use a Smart Cover/ Smart Case (magnetic wake)

Waking from Sleep/Wake button or Home button both cause the delay

Waking from Smart Cover/Smart Case (magnetically) or by plugging into a charger does NOT cause the delay.

The current work around for the screen rotation issue is to disable Reduce Motion as below

If the Reduce Motion setting is turned ON under Settings/General/Accessibility/Reduce Motion, the screen will not rotate correctly

If the Reduce Motion setting is turned OFF under Settings/General/Accessibility/Reduce Motion, the screen will rotate correctly

Seems we are stuck with these issues until Apple get it's act together and fixes them. Supply your feedback to them here please:

    Aloha SergZak

    And only SergZak.

I remember an old technique called calibrating the home button.

Open any standard Apple app like Notes or Reminders.

Hold the power button until the slide to close appears.

When it appears press the home button and release the power button.

When done it will return you to your homescreen.

Give it a try, the worst that can happen is you gave your iPad another reset.

    Stay well,  Bob.

No dice, Bob...and blast you, you made me do yet another reset on my iPad?

Thanks for the additional "one more thing to test". Take care, buddy.

You're welcome. Thanks for giving it a try. I guess it's one more thing we can add to the good try stack. Might as well cover all bases.

I'm so sorry to disturb you guys but I have another question and I really need help

    Hi Everyone,

I have one question regarding the screen distortion in iPad Air 2, whenever I hold the back of my iPad a bit firmly on the right hand side the pressure leads to screen distortion in that particular area. Is this because the iPad Air 2 is too thin? Should I be really worried about this? Will this harm that certain area of the iPad when I put pressure on it? Or will it harm my iPad or any of its Parts inside?

    Thanks,

    TheFlashZero

The double caps have been a glitch of the Forum  for a year now. You don't get to blame everything on IOS 8.4.

And have apple done anything about this? - it appears not.

I spent the best part of £1300 on a new ipad and iphone 6 at the beginning of the year,  am I wrong for expecting better than this?

    Very poor really.....

Are you kidding me ?  The Apple engineers lay awake sleepless at night troubled by this very problem. It's a toughie. The double caps of the Forum have nothing to do with the quality of your iPad and iPhone.

After upgrading my Air 2 from 8.3 to 8.4 I too am having a slow wake and the auto-rotation doesn't reliably work. Really ridiculous that Apple updates break existing functionality.

I also have this problem with my iPad Air 2. The unlock screen appears after 1 second pressing the button. I'm sure Apple get this solved soon.

I will report this bug too.
