Q: Windows partition not bootable after update.

All, As per a few others, I'm unable to boot into windows after an update.

In system preferences, under startup disk, only the OS X drive is shown.

The disk utility does show my 'MacDoze' drive greyed out. This drive was changed to a 3tb unit about a year ago and has been dual booting just fine.

diskutil list gives me the following:-

Disk shows three entries, but GPT command shows 4. Can you reboot? The kernel seems to be using a cached version. After reboot, please post the output of

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

    p

    q

Let us make sure they are in sync.

    1. Run Gdisk and use the 'b' command to back up the current GPT.

    2. Run sudo gpt -vv destror /dev/disk0 - which destroys your current GPT.

    3. Rebuild the primary GPT using the values we have (The explanation in parentheses should not be typed).

         sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0

Reboot and verify that OSX boots. If it does not, we will need to install OSX on external disk - OS X: Installing OS X on an external volume - Apple Support .

Please verify the values before you make changes. This is a destructive step.

    Will proceed as suggested.

As for verifying values, your knowledge is superior to mine by a factor that I can't determine. Will do a basic check against the data I have for Typo's, but in your hands!

See if I'm back on shortly?!?

OK. Command glitch. Did the backup OK but got this on your next step:-

Last login: Mon Jul 27 00:42:35 on ttys000

    192168015006:~ pom$ sudo gpt -vv destror /dev/disk0

    gpt: unknown command: destror

    192168015006:~ pom$

Figuring that destror may have been destroy, I tried that and got:-

    192168015006:~ pom$ sudo gpt -vv destroy /dev/disk0

gpt destroy: unable to open device '/dev/disk0': Resource busy

    192168015006:~ pom$

    Cheers,

Please install OS X on an external disk and boot from it. The device is busy because it is your boot device.

    then

    sudo gpt -vv destroy disk0

You will also need to install GPT Fdisk on the eternal disk so you can execute the steps outlined.
