iMovie 10.0.9 crashes on opening

New 10.0.9 version of iMovie crashes on opening (after showing the welcome screen and 'get started'). Start of crash log shown below. It crashes the same way in my 'guest user' account so I don't think it's my personal settings. But I did try deleting any iMovie plist files in my account and that didn't help.

I too am having the same version of iMovie crash but not on startup. After placing 2 or 3 clips the app crashes. I tried creating a new user and running it there so that it had a pure System to use. That worked better and I managed to add more clips to the Project. Again it crashed several times. Finally I completed the movie but it now crashes on trying to share it.

Just holding for Apple Support to discuss further.

One thing I realized is that iMovie is finicky with importing certain files. For example, when I imported the AVCHD file, it imported some of the clips corrupted. For the AVCHD package, I opened the contents in finder then I imported the MTS files directly. Then I was able to edit and export the video.

It is such a pain though, so many bugs with the software.

Capture Data failed with an Applescript error. iMovie project was eventually completed but now crashing after selecting Share with Error

All the videos in my Project are m4v or MOV - The project is now complete after many crashes but now has failed on Sharing. I am really fed up. Do you think Final Cut would work better for me. Reluctant to shell out 250 quid and then find that fails as well.

This is the Sharing crash - any idea what it means?

I don't know. Apple software has been horrible lately. The older Final Cut Pro was so much better than the current as far as reliability.

If I were you, I would sign up for Adobe Creative Cloud and use Adobe Premiere. It's a monthly fee and I am pretty sure you can cancel at any time. I had previous adobe software so I only pay about $20/mth USD.

I suppose we should change the title of this thread. Note that I converted the MTS files to M4v and I wonder if my conversion utility was corrupt? I have asked for the originals to be placed in my DropBox as I had cleared them out after conversion. Last nights share attempt crashed again but at an earlier place. I am going to try a new movie with different content from this stuff and see what happens. I'll do this tomorrow.
