Power Fail Restart is Off, Start Triggered by HDMI Monitor

My late 2014 Mac Mini model 2.6 GHz dual core I5 is set to not start automatically after a power failure.

However, twice now, it has powered itself on. We've had power issues due to storm activity in recent days.

The Mini is connected via HDMI to a TV. It uses WiFi for network access and it is set to wake on network activity It has no USB devices connected, and it uses a Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad which was off.

In each case it happened many minutes (hours) after power was restored and while the connected TV was on and being used to view broadcast TV.

Suddenly, after watching TV for a while, there is the power up chime. In each case the TV was on, though not “using" the HMDI connection to the Mini. So, I wonder if anyone has experience with a Mini powering on under similar circumstances.

The Mini had remained off (as set in Preferences) after the power was restored. It self powered each time when the TV was being used for viewing TV. but only after a period of time.

So, should the HDMI signal (even if inactive) cause the Mini to decide to power up? Besides restoring power with the automatics start enabled, what should cause the the Mini to start up?

Not a serious issue, just reporting ans asking about a strange combination of events.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 27, 8GB, 2009 model

Note the time it next happens. Then open the Console app in Finder>Applications>Utilities and look for log entries at the time of the problem. Post suspicious ones here.

I created a power fail (pulled the plug) at about 5:30 PM and watched some TV.

Later, I pulled the log as suggested.

Looks like the thing decided to BOOT. I didn't touch it.

Strange how much activity there is when it is sleeping.

I would like to see the ones that started when you unplugged the power

Turning off a computer by removing power is not recommended since it can cause OS corruption, especially if you use a rotating HD.

Since I have the firmware password feature enabled, I was unable to easily reset NVRAM.

While I do remember the password, I am putting off the NVRAM reset for another time.

I did reset the SMC as suggested.

This problem is so far from being serious, I even hesitated to post it. But I did find it odd and I was curious about it.

And I will give NVRAM reset a try sometime.

I need to look at OS X logging more, been reading "Incident Response & Computer Forensics" and it has some references to OS X.

I shouldn't need to be reminded to look at the logs.

Thanks for the support, and have a Happy 4th of July!
