Macbook air does not recognize airport base station

My 2014 Macbook air does not recognize my Airport Extreme base station. My iPhone and husbands 2010 Macbook Pro recognizes it with no problem. I have tried adjusting my network preferences as suggested to local links only it worked temporarily but it's not recognizing it at all now. Any suggestions?
