Photos missing metadata after export

I am trying to move 10,000+ photos from an old MacBook Pro with iPhoto to my MacBook Air with Photos. After various fails I decided to export in small batches (500-1200) onto a flash drive and then import into Photos. This worked about 5 times and then suddenly, a few pictures would not export in each batch and the majority would not import. Apparently MetaData was missing from the exported photos. I did see a tip from another user about assigning a colorsync profile in Previews and while that did work, I'm not sure why. The original, successfully imported photos had the same Adobe Colorsync Profile as the ones that were not importing.

I did not suggest using Migration assistant (it has a terrible record with iPhoto and it ousted not be used IMHO) - I said

the best way is to connect the two systems together and drag the iPhoto library across to the pictures folder of the new system then open it and migrate it to photos - this keeps everything

No mention of migration assistant - Opening the iphoto library with Photos migrates the library - it does not use migration assistant in any way

But do what ever you want
