I have a mac book pro and it is not connecting with my time machine. Could it be because I changed internet companies with a new modem?

A new Modem sometimes changes the base Address of your private Network (like 10.10.0.1 to 192.168.0.1), leaving your devices with manual IP addresses unreachable.
Are you connected to TM via USB or via wifi? If via wifi (Time Capsule or other network storage) then the change in internet provider may be the reason.
