Need to get photos off of broken iPhone.

My iPhone 5 screen is broken and mostly black from dropping it so I cannot use it or get onto it, but it still works and lights up in some spots when I press the home or power button. I need to get my photos off the broken iPhone and I don't know how. I am not sure which operating system it is using since I broke it about 2 months ago and I cannot remember. It is not backed up with iCloud or My Photo Stream. Help please?
