how do i reduce the size of the playlist banner?

Not found any way to resize or disable it. Well worth reporting via Apple's iTunes feedback pageas an unwanted feature that should at least have an option to resize or (preferably) disable it.

There seems to be several issues with the Playlists view in iTunes 12.2.

Take two Playlists - in this first one, it's displayed as shown:

while the second one is displayed like this:

... and with no option that I can find to change to the other view.

Notice in this Playlist, there is no menu option for Column Browser...

...but in the first of my two Playlists, there is:

In addition, in the first Playlist ("2K goodies"), a resizing bar shows up if I try to alter the height of the banner, but it doesn't work. In the second Playlist ("Advert use"), no resize bar is displayed.

Without wishing to speculate, I suspect there will be iTunes 12.3 before long... 😉

I have the exact same problem on mac 😟

I've already submitted an enhancement request via Apple's iTunes Feedback page, suggesting that it should be possible to disable this feature. It may help of others provide the same input.

I find utterly bewildering as to why this large "banner" was added. It's just an awful, awful design decision.

I don't know who Apple is getting to design iTunes, but it is clearly not their A team.

Well, I did suggest on a discussion of the "cute" little hearts they've added to the UI in 12.2 that they'd been using a focus group made up of 10 year old girls 😉. Next release will probably replace the play button with a little pony ...
