Q: after upgrading to 10.10.4 Apple MAIL Locks Up.  Connection Doctor says all OK

After upgrading to 10.10.4, my Apple Mail locks up when "opened".  I have about 23 map email accounts.  Connection Doctor says all logins OK.

Major problem for me.  MacBook Pro late 2014 8GM Ram.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), 8GB Ram

    Freezes or crashes?

    Do a backup.

    Quit Mail.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.

Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

If that doesn’t solve it repeat the above using Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent.

It's simpler to just hold SHIFT when start MAIL until Apple does a FIX, which I understand is in the short-term works.

Also it's easier to see the hidden Library by simply pressing OPTION when in in GO in finder.  Then you see the LIBRARY pop into the menus.

I had the same problem. Pressed shift when I opened mail and seemed to clear the logjam. Now opens and closes properly.

Although pressing Shift when opening mail seemed to have fixed the problem why did this only happen on my laptop and not my missus iMac when I did the upgrade???  Really strange as my laptop has more memory is faster and is newer - only Apple will know - Leigh

For my own edification, what did holding the Shift key actually do for mail? (it did fix the problem)

Well I thought it had been fixed but this morning when I woke my laptop, no emails had come in since yesterday and mail not working.   Shut machine down with button as it wouldn't shut down correctly.

When it started mail was open but with nothing showing except "Choose a mail account to add" I checked in preferences and all my mail accounts are there but mail keeps displaying "Choose a mail account to add".   If I choose cancel it closes mail - now what???

On my missus iMac that is working fine but my laptop NO grrrrrrrrrrrrr Apple release a fix PLEASE or can somebody suggest something???

Pressing the shift key now does nothing

Same here - mail opens and closes a lot faster after opening it with shift key once - problem solved
