When I clicked on the alt key what I have is the Macintosh HD, Windows and the EFI boot. There is no external storage that was connected . However, I've just updated my mac to get the new music app that's when I realise that the EFI boot appeared.
If you select EFI Boot, do you get any error messages?

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.
