ipad mini won't charge

Hi,

I have an I pad mini (2 yr old) with ios 8.3 on it. I let the battery go to empty, i do that a lot, but this time when i connected the charge the ipad did not turn on, it just stayed on the charging screen that was flickering.

I connected it to my laptop and it turned on but it showed "not charging" near the battery symbol and turns off after few minutes.I left it this way and it kept turning on and off every few minutes. So i thought I should put it in the outlet again while its still on but the charge symbol kept flickering on and off for a few minutes until the ipad shut off. I am using an original cable.

Why is this happening and what can i do?

Force your device to start. To do this, press Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and hold them for at least 10 seconds.

Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support.

As a final step, try the recovery mode. Turn your device off, then plug it to your computer with the home button pressed. You will need to have iTunes installed on this computer. Keep the Home button pressed until you see the iTunes logo on the screen of your iPhone. After that on your computer you should see the iTunes window saying your iPhone needs to be restored to factory settings. Click on the restore button.
