missing HD after update installed
I updated my 2008 mac pro with latest OS 10.4 update from apple and since then my macintosh hd has disappeared.
Any suggestions please

From your question, it sounds as thought you are no longer seeing Macintosh HD in the sidebar of Finder or on your desktop. If this is the case please navigate to Finder > Preferences to adjust these settings.
OS X Yosemite: Finder preferences
The option to show your hard disks on the desktop is in the General tab and the option to show in the sidebar of Finder is in the Sidebar tab under Devices.
