Fails to wake from sleep

On this Mid 2009 MacBookPro I frequently fail to wake from sleep both open lid and closed lid if the sleep is longer than a few min to an hour

this has persisted through the 10.10.4 update in fact though the update seemed to be normal the computer hung at the point in the instalation with the progress line 1/2 filled... I had to boot to the emergency 10.10.3 fix partition and let it DL and install the 10.10.4 directly to regain control.

this is all withe magsafe providing the power

this is the report that gets sent to apple and the lid was closed yesterday at about 15:00 EDT July 1 the report has been this GPU panic since the problem started about 4 months ago

if shut down is elected from an OS X session the computer will respond normal from a power switch start up but if shut down is selected from Boot Camp Win 7 SP1 64 Pro the attempt to start the computer will fail in the same way as above but no crash report will be generated... If I select the BootCamp option restart on OS X i must then use OS X for a few min openening say safari and checking mail be fore I shut the computer down to be sure that the power on start up the next day will be normal.

I only use the 512 meg version of the GPU for windows 7 stuff yet this report each time it is generated says that the 256 version is in use

could this be some sort of hardware GPU fault?

The logic board is failing and will have to be replaced if you want to keep using the machine. The machine is too old to be serviced by Apple (unless you live in California, by state law) and the part may no longer be available.

Thanks ... Not what I wanted to hear of course..... is there much of a chance that this might be a software or hard disk problem(hence cheap to fix)?

Another mac for my museum of obsolete apple tech closet It now has (in addition to about a ton of old tech from other builders)

early Apple ][ with progressive upgrades to have eventually lower case text,

ram from 8k to at the end 64 k serial board 300 baud modem floppy disks to replace audio tape, and a 5 meg hard drive that cost almost $8,000 in 1983

on to my 100 day original mac with the signed in plastic inside with upgrades including a Radius FPD prototype in a metal cabinet( I worked for Radius at its start)

Mac IIFX also with a history of lots of upgrades along the way then a Mid series PowerPC Tower with huge 25" Sony Monitor that weighs about 200 lbs

17" PowerPC laptop, the Luxo Lamp base iMac and the first version of the intel MacPro 1.1. with a pair of 23" monitors by apple of different vintages...

time to consider if I still really need a laptop in my retired life or if a iPad can do the needed travel duity
