How can I access search engine on iPhone 6+?

Cannot search on iPhone 6 plus with Google, Safari or other engines. Usually I cannot get to the keyboard; even when I do, I get an old search topic instead of the new one I'm looking for. It worked fine earlier; I wonder if a child who was showing me the iPhone's features last night changed a setting? I can't find any evidence of that, let along how to change it back. I can access keyboard from other apps, just not those that enable searching the Web.
