Looking to upgrade to a SSD on my mid 2012 macbook pro

Hello all. As the title states I would like to upgrade to a SSD on my mid 2012 macbook pro. Its actually my wifes macbook. She uses it for school, currently she's entering a new phase of school that requires quite a bit of media editing software. Right now its running rather sluggish, partly due to the fact that theres a ton of photos and music on the hard drive, which will all be transferred to an external HD soon. But we still want to upgrade to a SSD. My main concern and reason for the post is how to make the removal of the old HD and installation of the new SSD and time machine backup seamless and streamlined.
