ethernet connectivity with Anker USB-C Hub

I have bought the new Macbook and typically the store had no Apple cables in stock for anything.

I have since purchased the Anker USB-C 3 x USB 3 hub with ethernet. According to the Anker website and pictures it plugs straight into the USB C on the new Macbook. http://www.ianker.com/support-c60-g633.html

The USB 3 ports work fine but the Ethernet shows in the Mac Preferences as cable unplugged. The Apple website suggests 2 adaptors are required to work ethernet, a USB-C to USB adaptor and then a USB to Ethernet Adaptor. Thsi seems mad as the Anker has both built in. Has anyone successfully managed to connect a Macbook by ethernet with one of these multi-adaptors yet ? If so what was the magic trick to make it happen.

thanks
