Safari converting docx file to folder/files (xml)

I am working with a client who uses a web-based, commercially available document-management tool (MultiTrans Prism Flow).

The client prepares/uploads the files (usually .docx files), which I then download and revise, and then I upload the new versions. Pretty straightforward.

The problem is I can't use Safari as my browser. If I click on the download button using Safari v7.1.7 (Maverick), it converts the docx file to a folder full of xml-type files. However, if I use Firefox, it works perfectly.

Obviously, I will continue to use Firefox for this client until I can figure out the solution (if there is one). Is there a workaround? Anyone come across this before?

Thanks.
