Only purchased content shows?

i'm still working the ins and outs of apple music, and I have the iCloud library switch on in my settings - but I just noticed that all of the music that wasn't purchased from the store is gone from my phone? do I have to re transfer it, or is it impossible to have both apple music with iCloud library AND the burned/ripped songs?
