[Safari] Problem with browser back button

Hello community,

I experienced some problem during browsing with Safari:

if I visit a site from a Google search and then I go back to the search results page does not load leaving completely empty: I need to manually refresh the page in order to see the page.

Does anyone have experienced this issue?

My OS is the most updated Yosemite.

Thank you.

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

In my case, this solved the problem. Using Safari 8.0.7 (10600.7.12) on Yosemite 10.10.4

Just go to Safari Preferences > Search and uncheck these two options (screen shown in Spanish, will translate but not sure if that's the same you'll see):

User uploaded file

Uncheck:

- activate quick web search

- preload best result in background

Hope this helps

This worked for me! Thanks!!

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Caches.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

I have been able to reproduce this 100% of the time using the following steps:

  1. Performing a search first using the Safari address bar
  2. Use the input box on the Google results page from the first search to perform a second search
  3. Navigate away from the second page
  4. Go back in your browser history to either rule page (using either the back button on swiping)

Every time I perform this series of steps, as soon as I attempt to load either result page by going back in history, the page appears but then seemingly unloads as soon as the progress bar finishes. For ref I've encountered this on two computers both running OS X 10.10.5, Safari 8.0.8 (10600.8.9), with only 1Password and Pocket extensions.

Ironically I think I discovered another Safari bug while validating these steps wherein while running Safari in full screen and dragging a tab out of the window to create a second window with the tab causes a new Safari window to appear in full screen but the body of the new window cuts off the top few pixels of the page.

Delete cookies and website data and see if that helps.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that didn't help, delete the cache associated with Safari.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

BTW, your profile indicates your Mac is running v10.10.3. If that is correct, the v10.10.4 update is avaiable from the App Store.

Click your Apple  menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click: App Store then select Updates.

Same thing here, I'm considering switching to Chrome even though I never liked it now it's working very well. Apple doesn't seem to care about Macs anymore, only focuses on the stupid and useless watch and how to make more money, not how to make useful and better tools as it did some years ago.

Sorry for the rant but I had to take that out, I'm getting tired of waiting for good Mac upgrades, since some of us do use them as work tools, not as fashion accessories.

I had the same issue using the back button after searching using Safari and Google when I run Snow Leopard. Blank screen, then press refresh and the results reappear.

Thought Yosemite would be different, but no. I'm getting exactly the same. Get a list of search results from Google. I select one, have a look, hit the back button and get a blank page. I have to refresh the page to get the results back, and so on and so on. Bit boring after a couple of years of this happening.

My solution..... Firefox and Chrome. Job done.

Those were already unchecked for me. So...

I bought this computer, new, from an Apple store May 1st. I have no extensions. It has happened since late (?) June. So I know that its not a large cache issue, or an extension. Seems like we all started complaining about it around the same time. First days of July.

There is no fix until Apple fixes it. Also, even though we have tried everything on our side we're not supposed to do their job, we already pay a premium price for supposed "premium" products. So, as philsh say, chrome is the best alternative. This kind of first party software issues didn't happen three or four years ago.

This started happening to me about three weeks ago. I've never had this problem before. At first, I didn't think anything of it because it wasn't that frequent. Now, it's happening more often, then not.

I've tried all the tips on here to fix it and it still happens when I click the back arrow and I get a blank page instead of my Google searches.

Guess I'll use Chrome or Firefox for now.
