can't make my ipad stop shuffling music

after the latest update that adds apple music, my ipad and iphone will only play my music in shuffle mode. Ive tried tapping the shuffle symbol (the crossed arrows) or the word "shuffle" that are in red right under the title, but that only changes the song randomly. I don't use shuffle. I set up my playlists as I want to hear them. I want to turn off shuffle. This wasn't a problem before the update. what am I missing?
