How do I sync my new iPhone 6 when the USB is not recognized by iTunes?

I have the latest version of iTunes and I just purchased an iPhone 6. When I connect my phone to my computer that runs Windows 7 I get the message "USB device not recognized". I tried uninstalling iTunes from my computer and reinstalling iTunes. I still get the message "USB device not recognized". Any tips for getting iTunes to recognize my phone so I can sync it?
