That's good news. However one drawback with using this method rather than the one outlined in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash is that your active library file is now in a non-standard location with respect to the media folder. You may run into trouble if/when you want to move your library to a new drive or computer, or have a similar problem in future and have to locate the correct Previous iTunes Libraries folder to look for your older libraries in.

See Make a split library portable for advice if you want to try putting the library back into the standard shape.

Thanks for this!  In light of this info, is it possible that somewhere on my drive I still have access to my library as it was before Apple forced the 12.2 update on me yesterday?  The best I could find was an .itl folder from December that brought everything up to then, but I still had to redownload all my purchases since then; drag all mp3's not purchased through iTunes since December back in to iTunes; I completely lost ALL of my playlists and details (of songs, composers, dates, etc) that I have manually created since December.  It is, without question, the most traumatic thing Apple has ever done to me from a product standpoint, and I am still really upset about it.  Total loss of confidence in their product updates.

I tried to do a full system search for a more updated itl or xml file with no luck.  Could it be hidden?  Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks.

The 12.2 update certainly created a previous library for me. I think the last automatic one for me was 12.0 in October of last year. (I do wish they would do it for every update - I've a couple from April, but I was probably testing something and made them myself.) If your search hasn't turned up anything then double-check for hidden .tmp files in your iTunes folder in case one of those represents your lost library. This assumes that iTunes on OS X manages that bit the same way that it does on Windows. I don't suppose TimeMachine is enabled for your iTunes folder?
