Confusion about Icloud storage on ios

Hi all.

Sorry if this is a stupid/obvious question or if it has been asked before, but ..

I want to start using icloud to store all my photos (69GB ) so i can access them on all my devices. I want to add them all to Photos on my mac and then view them on my ipad (16gb) and iphone 5s (16gb). But I seem to recall hearing that photos stored on icloud take up storage space on your devices as well as the cloud. Is this true? If so, how much space does it use up?

Please help, i am confused as all here.

1. Yes it does

2. Never more than you have available (that's what the Optimize Storage setting does). The phone stores smaller versions for you to see, full size originals are online.

Thank you for the help.

That's a shame, as I would have used icloud for all my photos and bought a bigger icloud package, if it wasn't for the fact that it still stores the photos on the device, no matter how small.

Need a better solution than google photos ;-)
