can't insert disc into DVD drive

When I try to insert a disc into my DVD drive it seems to try to eject it as I'm pushing it in. If I can get it flush with the case it pops right back out. The last disc I had in it started to make a funny sound before I ejected the disc. Now I can't get it to work. Time for a new drive?
