iTunes on Mac not starting when iPad connected

I have just installed the latest Mac OS X (Yosemite 10.10.4) and iTunes (12.2.0.145) on my iMac, and IOS 8.4 on my iPad 2.

iTunes not longer starts up then I plug in the iPad. I have the appropriate setting checked in the iPad summary setting in iTunes. When I open iTunes manually, it recognises the iPad and continues to sync as normal. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for the response however the setting in Image Capture is set to 'No Application" already. The new Photos app will open (or not) depending on the checkbox in it. Same goes for old iPhoto. Those apps work fine. The problem is that iTunes doesn't open when the iPad connects any more, regardless of the checkbox. If iTunes is opened manually it sees the iPad fine and works fine. That is the issue.
