The "p" key and keyboard

Hi,
My sister recently got a Mac Book pro and all of a sudden the "p" key does not work. Also, the keyboard lighting is not as bright as it used to be. She always has me help her fix the computers, but I have no idea what is wrong with this one. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, is there a reset button on the MacBook pro? Or, is there a way to lift the keyboard like on my old powerbook?

Thank you so much for your help!!!

I have had the same problem. At first I thought I was accidently hitting some function key that reordered the keys, but I don't think so. Some times it just seems to happen. I have resolved the issue by hitting fn + F8. On my computer this creates a blue edit space, then I hit delete and the p/0/- works again. Interestingly if I hit the fn + F8 again the p/0/- turns off. I have no idea why this works. I may still contact applecare to see what's up.

Hope this helps. I know it was very frustrating to me.

Hey! I really sympathise with you, my own MBP has developed a problem with it's .. .. 7 key which is very very annoying. On contacting apple i was advised to drop it into a local apple authorised repair center, where, it turns out, i know someone, and they told me that there is a problem with some of the keyboards used in the MBP's.

Personally I am going to leave it a few weeks before I drop it in for replacement because I was also told that I would not have any guarrentee that I would have my MBP back for christmas.

Hope this helps , and good luck!

ps. out of interest, what week build is your MBP?

I have the same problem the p/0/- keys randomly stop working. Bizarrely I can restart them by launching snood, tab-ing to another application, when i return to snood it is paused and the p key works again to unpause it. I can only think that this must be a software problem not a hardware one, or the 'snood' fix and the fn + f8 fix would not have any effect. I am reluctant to take the MBP to the supplier, partly as the original supplier (Infinite Systems) are hopeless and partly because I can't work without my computer for however long. Does anyone know if Apple are actually looking into this issue?

Hi,
I have developed the same keyboard problem, the "P", "0", and underscore keys will randomly stop working. The posted fn key work arounds do not work. All keys on a wireless keyboard work fine.

I spent an our on the phone with Applecare with no solution. They advised to send it in or take it to an apple store.

Has anyone found a real solution to this problem? Has anyone sent their computer in for repair with this problem?

thanks for the help!
