Serial port managed through USB

Does anyone has gone through the experience to still have to use a serial port to manage a remote device with an application running on the Mac ?

I have been looking at installing "md_PL2303" solution for OS X 10.10.x, which suppose to create a virtual serial port on the USB.

It no longer work ! Any idea / solution to overcome to this ?

Note. I am using Macbook 12", OS X 10.10.4
