Like many other folks, I am again having to relearn the Music App.
What does menu item 'make available offline' mean and why is it only visible against some purchased content?

if you make an apple-music track available offline, the track will be stored to your device so that you are able to hear it without a mobile or wifi connection.
If the option to make it available offline does not appear for some of your tracks it means, that it is already stored on your device. In these cases a small handy icon on the right side should appear.

Here's the response I got from Apple support:
'regarding the offline function you might see, you will only see that when browsing the Apple Music catalog with Apple Music or your past purchases. You have the option to do this for items on your device that are not currently available for offline mode. Otherwise it will normally stream the music. This is an optional function, and will only appear for the items that are not available for offline use at that time.
If you would like to see what you have available for offline use… Go the the “My Music” section of your app. Under the section where you normally choose sort by "album, artist, song name” and so on, if you tap that there will be an option to choose “Show Music Available Offline”. If you choose that, it will show you what is presently stored on your device. Here is an article that covers offline use in more detail: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204839
....which makes absolutely no sense to me, as I'm not browsing Apple Music - I'm browing My Libary on my device which is offline. Apple Music is turned off.

Thanks, that's what I thought, however...the track is already on my device as I can access and play it whilst offline!
@MIIIG...Assuming your response is correct - Why should I have to download it again - I already did that when I purchased it?!
TThis function isn't very well done. If you select it from the option menu next to the album then it still displays next to the individual songs instead of automatically changing to 'remove download'. If you download every track on an album individually the option still remains next to the album instead of changing to 'remove downloads'. The same is true if all songs/albums are downloaded for an artist or if songs are downloaded via a playlist. I've sent feedback to Apple about this.
Agreed with your post and deleted comments 100%....unfortunately, everytime they read something that isn't liked or is somewhat critical, then posts seem to disappear - somewhat disappointing.
I too am fast becoming dis-heartened with poor customer service and lack of focus. From being a staunch adovcate and owing an awful lot of Apple products for many years, I going the other way and extremely unlikely to replace any old products because of my experience over last 2+ years.
It will be interesting to watch, as their entire focus and orientation appears to have been to chase a previously untapped Eastern market that may soon vastly decrease or disappear because of the financial market.

Just to check that you are not logged into Apple Music ... You will know this because the My Music library switches from the bottom right of the screen in the app, to the left hand side. Make sure you are logged out. You can do that from the top left icon in the app itself.
Some people leave themselves logged onto Apple Music and don't understand what they are actually viewing.
wwell done Apple thanks for listening , I commented on this yesterday and lo and behold its disappeared!!, tidy tiger I agree whole heartedly my next product be it phone , music system computer and so on... However will NOT be an apple product, you can't add memory like every other product on the market, they change systems every five minutes with constant upgrades as they've not checked through the product thoroughly, you can't add your own music to ringtones. Sorry Apple you are far too greedy for my liking and none of it is about customer satisfaction.
