Buying an iPhone in South Africa, going back to United States

I am currently studying in Cape Town and my iPhone 6 plus was stolen. I am going to be here for three more weeks before I go back to the States. I am considering buying an iPhone from the iStore here in Cape Town. Aside from the cost, what are the disadvantages of buying an iPhone here that I will use in America? My service provider at home is Verizon but I have been using a prepaid Vodacom SIM card here in South Africa.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.4

Be biggest disadvantage could be, that, in case your phone needs to be serviced, Apple USA will not accept the device, because the warranty for an iPhone is only valid in the country of purchase. Sending the phone back to the country of purchase is not an option in that case.
