Ipod Nano 7 keeps turning itself on and off continuously

My ipod keeps turning itself on and off. It will turn on for about 1 second then it will go black, then go to the apple logo saying it's starting up again then stay on for a second, then shuts off. It keeps repeating this cycle non-stop and it won't turn off completely at all. It stops doing this while it is plugged into my laptop and syncing but keeps doing this when it's not.

I have tired resetting it and restoring it but neither have worked and I can't actually do anything on the ipod
