how to get and reset IP address on HP Jetdirect 300X from a Mac?
I am trying to figure out how to configure an HP Jetdirect 300X print server so that it can be used by both Macs and PCs on my network to print to an HP 5MP Postsript laser printer. (Yes this printer is slow but it still prints beautifully)
The server did configure Appletalk properly and it does print via Appletalk from my Macs, but I would like to configure its IP address for IP printing. The documentation says the IP address is supposed to default to 192.0.0.192 but all I get is 0.0.0.0 which is unusable. The configuration test page always says "TCP/IP STATUS: INITIALIZING BOOTP/DHCP IN PROGRESS" and it never gets assigned an IP address so that I can try to telnet to it and change its IP address to a static one. I don't know how to turn off this BOOTP/DHCP query.
Do I need to turn off Appletalk (on all the Macs) and then try again, or does this matter?
After I finally get a default address, I also need to know the proper steps and syntax to change it.
It appears that I need to update the server's firmware (it has H.06.00) as well, which apparently can only be done from a PC, so I need to know where to begin.
