Kernel_Task killing CPU in Ableton Live (EtreCheck inside)

Question

Hello There, Since few days i can&#x27;t run the projects i worked a week ago. My MacBook Pro go nuts with Ableton after 20 to 30 min. When it come i can see in the Monitor Activity "Kernel_Task" is using 500% ++ Cpu. Also, even when i don&#x27;t use ableton, the MacBook is slow. I have important stuff to finish, before trying a re install of Maverick i&#x27;d like to know if there is a time saver way to solve this king of problem. Problème INFECTION !You are infected with a nasty adware/malware.Download  AdwareMedic  from  thesafemac.com.Run this app.Relief will be there.An additional remark:In your Etrechecklist I saw that you have upgraded to a higher version of OSX everytime over the older installations.(very) old software is still installed and probably ineffective (Paceapp, and so on). Perhaps you can think about cleaning up.But never use cleaning tools and such. Uninstall what you do not need.Lex

Hi Lex, thanks to getting back to me.Looks like it&#x27;s not solved..I ran AdwareMedic and found 3 files to delete, there was 2 safari extensions and another one.After a reboot i tried the MacBookPro in work condition and had same problem: Ableton Live works almost well the first  20min. and the CPU go worse and worse til i can&#x27;t use Ableton. Looks like it&#x27;s a bit better about the Kernel_task it just hi 150%.. It&#x27;s really frustrating i can&#x27;t do anything 😕About the old software etc..i don&#x27;t understand why i have this in my files, this computer have just 1 year today and it came with Mavericks. Maybe there is a mess with my external HD? Yes part of my message was lost:In SystemPreferences-&gt;Users&amp;Groups-&gt;LoginItems: remove all entries, with the minus sign. Then restart.Now only start one App that you need, use it, after use QUIT from the menu.Same issues? No, try with another one...

The adware/malware is gone, This must have alleviated the issue already, but there are old softwares, maybe used by an old app.In The SystemPreferences there are 3 non-apple panels: in all 3 disable, when possible, when not possible uninstall. then restart.What do you use NativeInstruments for, is this absolutely necessary to make your Audio equipment work?

Hi Lex, Thanks again for your answers. Its more okay than yesterday but not that good. I can run better my projects on ableton and Kernel_task don&#x27;t hit the CPU anymore (for now) but it&#x27;s still slow.. Maybe i didn&#x27;t pay attention but I can see in the monitor a lot of RAM used, particularly by "google.helper" on maybe 20 instances around 3 GO Ram! And few other apps too i don&#x27;t know. I Googled it and found it&#x27;s maybe in correlation with opened window.. Is there a way to avoid that? Also sorry again.. There is probably something else to clear there. Edit: Decided to remove Google Chrome and few other apps. The system looks more comfortable with safari. I&#x27;ll try in working condition tomorrow but for now  the fans shut down and all is more fluid. Not tried in work condition yet. That was exactly what I wanted to propose, when I saw your later message:Google Chrome is a resources hog, although I have not seen such hog as you describe. Safari is much safer with the sandboxing. Also not running apps through élements ouverture must make a large difference.The apps I talked about earlier, are apps from the (snow) Leopard period, thus I assume that you used MigrationAssitant when you installed this mac.In my opinion you can safely remove all Paceapp. When it is needed for another app, that one is certainly not up to date.In Finder go to the  MacintoshHD-&gt;System-&gt;Library-&gt;Extensions   folder, there are a lot of files in there, be careful, in there there are TWO kexts to delete:com.paceapp.kext.....andPaceSupportFamily.kextThen go to the  MacintoshHD-&gt;Library-&gt;LaunchDaemons (Daemons de lancement) and delete PACEsupport.plist.Then restart, and empty the trash.Lex

Didn&#x27;t found "com.paceapp.kext..", maybe i deleted it yesterday. Just a question is there a app like adblock or something for safari?  Anyway, i see a huge difference since yesterday morning, I&#x27;ll try later in working condition, thanks fo your help Lex!

Adblockers: there are three extensions for Safari:Adblock, perhaps the most honestAdBlockPlus, lesser reputation,Ghostery, sh*t.I am sorry for the strong words, you should nuance it a bit 😊There is an alternative Glimmerblocker, do not install it, maybe a good idea, but a lousy performer in terms of little issues.2. When you run Etrecheck another time see if you really have deleted all PaceApp, if not say so and we do a better search/destroy.3. Run AdwareMedic from time to time, does not hurt. - I agree about quartz.I don&#x27;t think Wine (windows apps on Mac) is good for higher than Lion....- Charlessoft (Pacifist) is harmless as long as you know what it can do and what not. The Helper stays on forever when you have used it. When you have it uninstalled, the Helper can go.- As far as I know, Origin does not run on Mavericks....In that case you should uninstall it.Lex
