MY iPad Air is in portrait mode, and will not return to landscape. I have made sure the orientation lock is unlocked, and re-booted it several times to no effect. I installed iOS 8.4 hoping that would fix it, to no effect. Any ideas?

HI Jason! I appreciate your answer. Meanwhile I opened Real Racing 3 which only operates in landscape. I was just trying it to see what would happen. To my surprise that action freed up my iPad orientation problem! More lucky than skilled!

There is a bug in iOS 8.4 that prevents screen rotation from working correctly. See the following topic:

Or the specific fix:
If the Reduce Motion setting is turned ON under Settings/General/Accessibility/Reduce Motion, the screen will not rotate correctly
If the Reduce Motion setting is turned OFF under Settings/General/Accessibility/Reduce Motion, the screen will rotate correctly
However, if you've had the problem under iOS 8.3 as well, this may not correct the issue in your particular case.
