Sent too large of a text message, and now my macbook messages won't open

So i sent one of my contacts an emoji, but i copied it and pasted, and repeated.... a lot. So i sent one insanely massive text message (apparently much larger than I intended) and it caused my messages on my macbook to freeze and crash. i also could not access that contacts message conversation on my iPhone, but other conversations on my iPhone worked fine. So i deleted the conversation with the person i sent the message to on my iPhone and started a new one, and it seems that i can now deliver messages to that person just fine but I still can not open the messages on my macbook. whenever I try, the app icon doesn't even bounce and it immediately says "application not responding" if i right click it. So, anyone have any ideas how to get my macbook messages app working again?
