can ethernet and wifi be used at the same time

My iMac is connected to my airport extreme with an ethernet cable. Occasionally I will use an app such as a mapping app that wants to determine my

location and it will declare that wifi is more accurate.

Is it ok to leave wifi turned on even when the ethernet cable is plugged in?

Am I causing a conflict?

Should I just switch off wifi on the iMac when I'm not using location services?
