smart playlists broken with iTunes 12.2

After updating to iTunes 12.2, two smart playlists that I have always synced to my iPhone and iPad are now screwed up after sync. They appear correctly in iTunes, but files that are now added to the playlists do not end up at all on the iOS devices, or else one will be in one of two playlists but not the other. Viewing the devices in iTunes shows that they are indeed "present" on the devices, but they do not show up in the Music app on the devices. And the sort order of these smart playlists is broken on the iOS devices; things are only sorted by song (alphabetically), which doesn't help if you have a Mahler movement followed by a Nirvana song.
