no text message notifications iPhone 6 plus

I purchased my iPhone 6 plus Wednesday evening and finally get it setup. Today I finally get to putting in all my imap email accounts and in a couple of hours I notice my phone is extremely quite. Well I check it to make sure it is still alive and I have messages. I check all my sound settings and I can find nothing out of the ordinary. My phone will ring for incoming calls but it will not make a sound to save its own life for any other type of notification. Well after finding another post and reading through someone said "IMAP" email gave them issues so they switched to POP... I deleted my IMAP email accounts and the problem was gone. I now get text message notifications BUT I don't have email which is a primary means of communication for me.

We have progressed so far in the world of email until I am going to have issues using POP email. I access my email from my phone, tablet, desktop and laptop so I need a solution.

Does anyone know if there is a solution for this please?
