changing drives from one Mac Pro to another, can it be done?

I bought a newer used MAC pro to replace my older one... and I'm looking to find whether I can put my main SSD that's in my older MAC to my newer MAC without issues? Going from a 2.66GHz duo core (Mavericks 10.9.3) to 3.33GHz 6 core (Yosemite 10.10.4)

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Coop

What is the older Mac? All Mac Pro desktops have Xenon processors.

You say Mavericks and duo core. Only the 2006/2007 Mac Pro desktops has dual-core processors (Xenon) and they require a software hack to run later to Lion. The hack will likely present problems on the newer Mac.

Typically, unless your installed the OS on an older Mac from install disks made for that model Mac,yu can take a startup disk and use it on other Macs that can run that OSX version
