Q: Problem saving to my music or to a playlist

Everything worked perfectly yesterday, I could add tunes/album in Apple Music to playlists and save them to My Music.

Today the window I saw when I first ran the Music app on my iPad unexpectedly appeared again, asking if I'd like to switch on Apple Music and which plan I'd like to sign up to (individual or family). I switched on Apple Music again and selected the plan again.

Since then I can't save any Apple Music to playlists or to My Music. This happens on my Mac, iPhone and iPad.

If I click the + button to add it to My Music it shows a tick as if it's been added. On my Mac, if I then switch over to My Music, everything is grey and the album I've just added isn't there.

Eventually it reconnects and My Music is all available once again. As soon as I try to add an album again, the same thing happens. The album doesn't get added and My Music is unavailable for a few minutes. I can still stream from Apple Music, I just can't save to My Music or access anything from within My Music.

Something slightly different is happening on my iPad. If I add an album to My Music, the tick appears and suggests it works. If I flick over to My Music to access it, I can very briefly see the album in Recently Added but it promptly disappears. I can still play anything else already in My Music though (whether available offline or only in iCloud), unlike on my Mac where everything is unavailable for a few minutes when I try to add something to My Music.

Is anyone else having a similar problem or does anyone know a solution?

Thanks. I was so impressed with Apple Music yesterday and then it became largely unusable today.

Having the same problems, almost 80% of my catalog that i added the day after the release now appears all greyed out...

I've logged in, logged out, restarted everything but none of that makes a difference, i then re-add the albums and they wont add to OS X or iOS devices, I get a little cloud appearing in the top right saying its unable to access my iTunes purchases right even though i just want to add them to a playlist/add content to my apple music account.

it could be a problem with iCloud Music Library not functioning properly which is a problem down Apples end or with high influx of users accessing Apple Music and over loading the system, hopefully smooths out over the next week or so once things calm down.

i am however impressed with Beats1 and when i get frustrated with my iCloud Music Library/iTunes not working i fall back onto that.

Two days later and I still have the same problem. Everything works perfectly apart from saving to my music or adding to playlists. If I try to do that on my Mac, I instantly lose access to all of my music for a few minutes until it reconnects. If I try on my iPad the plus turns to a tick, nothing actually happens and then the tick turns back to a plus after about five seconds.

I'd really like to fix this but have tried disconnecting, restarting, checking settings etc. and there's nothing left for me to try.

    More info about this problem...

I can add one song from an album to My Music, but only one. If I try to add the whole album it doesn't work. If I try to add songs individually the first song appears, subsequent ones either appear in My Music for a few seconds and then disappear again or don't appear at all. The same happens when adding to playlists: the first song from an album adds correctly, subsequent ones don't.

This has to be a bug rather than anything which I'm doing wrong. If this is happening to you too, or if you know why, please post a reply.

    Thanks!

Exactly the same thing has happened to me, across 3 devices, i.e. I "check" an album but then it won't appear in My Music and unchecks.  Same as you on iPad too, it momentarily adds it then it disappears.  I've tried everything.  Could you let me know if and when you manage to resolve?  Vice Versa if I manage to fix it.

Here's a thought... could there still be a 25,000 song limit for an Apple Music library, not including purchased tracks? I would have been very close to that with my iTunes Match subscription and then signed up to Apple Music. On the first day I could add albums to my music without problem but then it stopped working on day 2.

Could it be that I hit a 25,000 song limit?

Before I start deleting music to test this, can anyone confirm that they have a library of over 25,000 non-purchased songs but can still add to My Music?

Do the other people having problems with adding to My Music have a library of around 25,000 songs?

    Thanks!

I set up a smart playlist to list all the non-purchased songs and sure enough it came to 25,008.

I deleted about 50 songs and was then able to add an album without problem.

So that answers it for me - I'd hit the 25,000 limit without realising.

It would have saved so much time if Apple Music had just given me a quick "your library is too large" error when I try to add more songs to it...

OMG this explains it for me!  I have been going crazy trying to figure out why this happens!  I've been iTunes Match since day one, and only recently got up towards 25,000 matched items (another 2000 purchased songs, but I'm right at 25,000 matched or uploaded).  I go to select the "Add to My Music" option in Apple Music, and iTunes freezes/all of my songs turn grey -- and I have to quite and re-launch iTunes.  Argh!

So, basically unless Apple raises this limit, you effectively cannot be an iTunes Match user and enjoy adding non-purchased Apple Music for BOTH streaming or offline-listening in your "My Music" library in iTunes.    You're stuck and relegated to streaming playlists, only.   It isn't a DRM issue, it's a "you got too much music -- and the labels won't let us raise your locker size" problem.

This is unacceptable.  I shouldn't have to delete a bunch of my already-owned (and enjoyed) music from iTunes Match in order to add songs to My Music (which I would like to do, in order to add songs to my already beloved playlists).   Fix this Apple!    Put the labels in a room, and get it done.   50 or 100K music lockers, for users who pay for both Apple Music _and_ iTunes Match.

I'm 2 weeks into the trial, and I won't last another month if this keeps up.

I, too, am an iTunes-Match customer who's over the 25,000-song limit, and I knew that before signing up for Apple Music. But frustrating that Apple didn't clarify the caveats and/or provide a smoother transition for iTunes-Match customers.

When I listen to new music in the Apple Music library, the "Add to My Music" command doesn't work consistently. I have not removed songs from my library, so I'm currently at 26,281. (Songs purchased from the iTunes store don't count against the 25,000-song limit.)

I've discovered that any attempt to add songs to My Music from iTunes 12 (on the Mac) fails. If I add songs to My Music from my iPhone or iPad, they do appear in My Music—usually immediately on the iOS device, but it's either delayed or doesn't appear in My Music at all on the Mac.

Also, if I attempt to add to My Music via the Mac, that seems to block the command from working on an iOS device for "a while." I haven't figured out the interval. But doing so fails to work. But twice now, I've tried again on an iOS device (a day or two later), and the song or album was in fact added.

I've filed numerous bug reports, and I trust these issues will get worked out. But it's frustrating that the "victims" here are often iTunes-Match customers who were already paying for a service. Now we're the ones being "penalized" in this transition. While those who were NOT paying for iTunes Match are, by and large, having a more pleasant experience with Apple Music.

So just to highlight this my experience has been similar.  I did what was described above with the smart play list.  My count was 25k even.  I removed 75 of those tracks - and I could add new music via Apple Music.  Instantly synced across all devices - Mac OS X, iPhone, etc.  Furthermore, my 25k limit hasn't been reached or exceeded since then - and I've added back more than 75 new tracks.

This most certainly is a bug - I wish Apple would acknowledge this and either fix it (w/o making us wait for the 100k limit this fall) or post a work around as described above.

Has another fixed been worked out?  I don't follow why this is happening.  I have a library of around 60k songs and per what you all appear to be saying is that I would have to part with the majority of the music in order to be able to use the playlist feature just save streaming music in it?  I don't follow why that would be the case and it's very frustrating. Spotify offers a much better product along these lines.  I"m hoping there is a work around because it would be more convenient.

Probably already figured this out above but I did confirm with Apple Support this was a limitation connected with the 25k iCloud song limit.   No option right now except move to Spotify. They said hopefully 100k likit in "future"

    my transcript from Apple:

    Jennifer:
I understand you have some concerns with your Apple Music and iTunes Match not being able to add music is that right?

    me:
That's correct, it looks as though I either need to choose to continue at iTunes match or use Apple music but can't do both and save songs locally

    Jennifer:
I have an extensive music collection as well. I understand the concern with wanting to add more. I will be happy to explain.

    Jennifer:
I have also emailed you the article that explains the limit, but here it is just in case you didn’t get that.

    Jennifer:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204925

    Jennifer:
Both services use iCloud to distribute those songs to other devices without having to use iTunes to sync manually.

    me:
    Ok

That's too bad, I might be on the upper limit I'm not sure but it's going to push a lot of people away from Apple music

    Jennifer:
Hopefully that limit increases soon. There is rumor of it, but nothing confirmed as of yet.

    me:

I loved beats but it sounds as though I'm gonna have to move to Spotify  With that service I won't have to deal with this conflict and limitation It's too bad because Apple music's has some really good features that came from beats

    Jennifer:
Most definitely. We love Apple Music. I would definitely keep an eye out as we are hoping the limit increases very soon.

    Jennifer:
An Apple executive mentioned that the limit would be increased to around 100,000 but didn’t give an exact date. Hopefully we have an update on that soon if that is going to be implemented.
